How do I create my own netvibes page?

This is the fun part! The more you learn about netvibes, the more you’ll want add, remove, expand, customize and play with it.

When you first logon to http://www.netvibes.com, you’ll see that there’s no logo, just a title that says 'Type your page title here'. Click it and give your Netvibes a name. You can now click on Sign In prompting the Side Bar to open. Under your netvibes page, register your Email and Password.

Of course, there’s a whole lot more. You can use netvibes to:

  • Check your email
  • Search the web
  • Search for podcasts and videos – and play with them
  • Read feeds from your favorite blogs and news sites
  • Stay connected with your friends on MySpace
  • Get organized


Take a look at the modules that are already on your Netvibes page. When your roll your mouse over each module, you’ll see a small menu bar pop-up at the top of the module.

In the module’s menu bar, if you’d like to delete the module, just click X. If you’d like to customize your module’s login information or preferences, click Edit. If you click the little triangle, a list of Module Actions will pop-up, allowing you to change colors and share it directly with your friends.

Feel free to add more modules, feeds, and tabs, move them around, or go to Settings to change your language or design theme—this is your own netvibes page, so have fun with your creation. (If you want to save your netvibes page, don’t forget to Sign In at the upper-right of your screen.)

And if you’re ever in doubt, the 'Help' link in the footer of your page.


How do I expand my page and add Tabs?

Tabs let you have multiple pages in your Netvibes. If you want to expand your account you can use:

  • The widget directory: click Add content' and then on 'Browse categories'
  • The start wizard: Click 'Add content', then on 'Start wizard' and now just follow the different steps



Click your new tab and organize your feeds or widgets that interest you. Voila, you’ve just created your second (or third, or fourth…) netvibes page!


How can I share my Modules, Feeds or Tabs?

You can share feeds, modules/widgets and netvibes tabs via email or instant messages.

Share a module or a feed:

  • scroll over the top right of the module where you should get a 'mail' icon
  • Click on it
  • Select 'Send to a friend'
  • Select the method of sharing by Email or Instant Messaging:
By email
  • Type in your friend's email address
  • Personalise it by clicking on 'Personalize the message'
  • Tick the 'Share module pre-configured
  • Tick (optional) 'Send me a copy of the email
  • Send
By Instant Messaging
  • Tick the 'Share module pre-configured'
  • Right click and copy this link into your messaging application
On your blog, myspace

You can also promote a widget or your RSS feed on your blog:

  • scroll over the top right of the module where you should get a 'mail' icon
  • Click on it
  • Select 'Promote on my blog'
  • Tick the 'Share module pre-configured'
  • You can now copy and paste the code your blog


Share a tab:

  • click on the small arrow on the right of the tab title
  • Select the method of Send by Email, Instant Messaging or On your blog, myspace in the 'Share' part:
By email
  • Type in your friend's email address
  • Personalise it by clicking on 'Personalize the message'
  • Tick the 'Share all modules pre-configured'
  • Tick (optional) 'Send me a copy of the email
  • Send
By Instant Messaging
  • Tick the 'Share all modules pre-configured'
  • Right click and copy this link into your messaging application
On your blog, myspace
  • Tick the 'Share all modules pre-configured'
  • You can now copy and paste the code on your blog


How do I quickly add more Modules and Feeds?

There are 2 methods of quickly adding modules and feeds:

1- From the Topbar

Add a Feed

  • Click on 'Add content'
  • Click on 'Add a feed'
  • Enter a URL/ Address
  • Import an OPML file

Simply copy the URL, then paste it into the relevant field. Select Add and if valid, the feed will load onto the page. So to ensure to load the feed into the relevant page, select the Tab then attempt to add a feed. The latter will save you time dragging & dropping feeds.

Browse categories

  • Click on 'Add content'
  • Click on 'Browse categories'

You will be able to browse all the widgets from Ecosystem directly from your page. The search field will allow you to search directly the content you are looking for.

For adding widgets from the Topbar, it's only a matter of 'Adding to your page', dragging & dropping and removing as when it suits you.

Latest modules (listed in the Ecosystem)

  • Click on 'Add content'
  • Expand 'Essential widgets'
  • Click on 'Latest modules'
  • Type in a subject/ keyword
  • Click 'Edit'
  • Select a language
  • Select a Nb Items
  • Search
  • You can now drag&drop a module into your page

2- From Start wizard tool

If your account is configured to France, US you can also add modules and feeds from the 'Start wizard' option. Remaining countries will have this option in due course.

  • Click on 'Add content'
  • Click on 'Start wizard'
  • Simply follow the different steps
  • This automatically creates a new Tab named either of the above.


And if you’re ever in doubt, the 'Help' link in the footer of your page.


How do I add new RSS Feeds?

There are 5 main methods which you can add an RSS Feed:

1- Use the Widget Directory

Click 'Add Content' (upper-left of your screen). Then, in the Topbar, click on 'Browse categories' and click 'Featured widgets' or on the others categories' and drill down until you find a feed that interests you. Click it and netvibes will add it as a new module on your netvibes page.


2- Using a Blog/Website’s Address (Automatic Feed Detection)

Click 'Add Content' (upper-left of your screen). Then, in the Topbar, click 'Add a Feed'. Simply enter in a blog or website’s address (URL). If the blog or website publishes RSS Feeds, netvibes automatically detect it and add it as a new module on your netvibes page.


3- Using a RSS or Atom Feed Address (Manual)

Click 'Add Content' (upper-left of your screen). Then, in the Topbar, click 'Add a Feed'. Simply enter in a RSS or Atom feed address (URL) and netvibes will add it as a new module on your netvibes page. To find the RSS or Atom feed address on a website, check the header or footer of the page, or your browser’s address bar for an RSS/Atom/XML logo: RSS RSS Atom Rdf XML

Then, simply right-click it and copy the link address and paste it into the 'Add a Feed' tool discussed above.


4- netvibes button

Most popular websites and blogs already have a netvibes button on it. If you see the button, click it and the RSS Feed or the module will automatically add to your page.

5- Using your Web Browser

- Add2Netvibes Bookmarklet (any browser):

Go to http://eco.netvibes.com/tools/. Drag the Add2Netvibes button directly into your browser’s bookmark toolbar. Now whenever you surf to a blog or webpage you like, simply click the Add2Netvibes button in your toolbar and a window will pop-up to allow you to instantly add the site’s feed to your netvibes page.

- Firefox Feed Aggregator Preferences:

In Firefox 2.0, you have an option to choose a default RSS Aggregator. Select Tools > Options into the Feed tab where you can choose an aggregator. If netvibes is not on the list, refer to http://eco.netvibes.com/tools/ to quickly install netvibes feed reader button into your Firefox browser.

- Firefox Extension:

netvibes created an extension for Firefox that enables it to automatically detect if there is feed in a page and to add it directly into your netvibes page. The Firefox extension is available at http://eco.netvibes.com/tools/


How do I move a module between tabs?

  • Scroll over the top border of a module (make sure you’re over a blank section and not over any buttons).
  • Drag & drop the module into the new tab.
  • Click on the new tab to ensure the module is present.

How do I change the name of a module?

Not all modules have this option but most do. Simply click 'Edit' in the top right of the module and change the Title or Name field.

How do I change the name of a tab?

  • Double click on the name of the tab.
  • Type in the new name.

How do I mark all posts as read?

Tab

Click on the unread number indicator eg. (41) near the tab title Select OK when the confirmation message appears.

Module

Click on the unread number indicator eg. (33) near the module title Select OK when the confirmation message appears.
